Be useful: Practical advice for leaving the ivory tower

Achieving a successful scientific career is incredibly challenging. Many obstacles go far beyond the classroom and are not often openly discussed during the course of ones studies. In particular the lure of a permanent position in academia is the central force driving many young scientists, yet its pursuit is becoming increasingly more ill-advised. In this talk I will briefly share my experience as an international student and researcher, as well as impart some useful advice on transitioning from academic research into the professional world.
