Symposium

S05: Bulk Ultrafine- and Nano-Structured Materials

Belongs to:
TopicS: Structural Materials

Bulk ultrafine- and nanostructured materials have recently attracted growing scientific interest. This symposium focuses on all aspects of science and technology for such materials that typically show grain sizes below ~ 1000 nm. It provides a forum to present and discuss latest research on processing including conventional and emerging technologies via top-down (e.g. severe plastic deformation) and bottom-up (e.g. inert gas condensation and compaction) techniques as well as fundamental aspects regarding UFG microstructures, strength, ductility, work-hardening, fatigue, corrosion, creep and fracture.

The symposium will cover the following topics:

  • Processing techniques by conventional and emerging technologies (including modeling and experimental developments)
  • New processing routes (e.g. consolidation by severe plastic deformation)
  • Characterization of the microstructure
  • Mechanical and physical behavior and controlling mechanisms (including studies appreciating the effect of different temperatures and strain rates)
  • Computational and analytical modeling
  • Nanostructuring by surface processing
  • Applications for bulk ultrafine- and nanostructured materials
